Emergency Toothache Treatment in Beckenham

Toothache can interrupt sleep, eating and everyday activities. A dull ache, sharp sensitivity or throbbing tooth pain deserves an assessment rather than repeated home remedies. At Kelsey Park Dental, our emergency dentist in Beckenham helps new and existing patients understand the cause and their treatment options. Call during opening hours to check the next available appointment; same-day availability depends on the diary.

What causes dental pain?

Decay, a cracked tooth, leaking restorations and inflamed dental pulp can all cause pain. A lost or damaged filling may expose sensitive tooth tissue. Gum infection, grinding and problems around wisdom teeth are other possibilities. Pain alone cannot tell you whether the nerve is infected, so we examine the tooth and surrounding tissues before recommending treatment.

Symptoms and urgent warning signs

Tell us if pain lingers after hot or cold drinks, wakes you at night or becomes worse when biting. An unpleasant taste, fever or swelling around a painful tooth may indicate infection. If swelling causes difficulty breathing or swallowing, or spreads towards the eye or neck, seek emergency medical help immediately by calling 999 or attending A&E.

How toothache is treated

The dentist checks your symptoms, medical history and bite, with X-rays when clinically needed. A filling may repair decay; root canal therapy may help retain a tooth with damaged or infected pulp. If a tooth cannot be restored, tooth removal may be discussed. Antibiotics are not a routine cure for toothache and do not replace treatment of the cause.

Looking after your teeth

Until your visit, avoid chewing on the painful side and choose food and drinks that do not trigger sensitivity. Ask a pharmacist about suitable pain relief and follow the packet instructions. Never place aspirin directly on the gum. Brush gently with fluoride toothpaste and clean between teeth daily. Regular examinations and early attention to damaged restorations can reduce future problems.

Private emergency appointments are £50; X-rays are £11 each. Additional treatment is charged separately. Call 020 8650 7677 or book an appointment online. Monday–Friday: 9 AM–5.45 PM; Saturday and Sunday: closed.
